This home came out to about 22 squares or 2,200 square feet. It took our crew one day to complete.

We had 6 journeymen work from 6 AM to 4:30 PM. We did not do any work on the flat area (garage). We removed one layer of shingles and broomed surface clean. We removed and decked over the existing cooler flashing. We installed 2X2 galvanized drip edge and Owens Corning synthetic underlayment. We installed starter shingles and new 18” wide galvanized metal in valleys. We installed Owens Corning Duration dimensional shingles with a 6-nail application and 130 MPH wind rating. The color of the shingle is Desert Tan. We installed hip/ridge shingles.

We sealed all pipes and penetrations and painted to match the shingle color. The front patio cover was too low slope for shingles, so we installed a new Carlisle 60 mil TPO roof on that area. Even though it looks white in the drone photos, we used tan colored TPO. The tan is very light – similar to a manila folder. Our roofing crew used all the appropriate safety procedures, such as wearing hard hats, safety ropes, tying off the ladder, etc. We give a 10 year labor warranty and 50 year material warranty on our shingle roofs. We pulled a permit through the city and passed the final inspection.

Here is basic information on RhinoRoof synthetic underlayment:

(You can also go to the Owens Corning website listed here: https://www.owenscorning.com/roofing/products/rhinoroof-u20)

  1. The underlayment has a great tear resistance up to 2X stronger than other types of underlayment.

  2. There is a back coating that holds to the deck and a fiber-grip on the front side to help installers not slip.

  3. Can stand up to UV rays for up to 3 months if it is exposed.
