People usually do not realize they have any problem with their roof until they develop a leak.
Living in the desert, we do not usually get a lot of rain and can go months without any precipitation. When we do get rain and you have a leak in your roof, it can seem like the end of the world. Roofing companies typically get overbooked during the monsoon season and when it rains, which means you might have to wait months to get your roof repaired. There are a couple things you can do to try to help prevent interior damage while you wait for your roof repair.
- Tarp your roof. This can be very difficult if you have a flat roof, but you can try to tarp your roof
so that water doesn’t get to the area that is leaking. Roofing companies typically do not tarp
roofs, but you might be able to get a handyman to do it if you cannot do it yourself.
- Put a bucket under where the water is leaking. Instead of using a towel or tarp, a bucket will collect the water and keep the floor dry.
- Poke a hole in your drywall ceiling so that the water has a way to exit. This will help keep the water from spreading and causing more ceiling damage.
